Cone Screw Splitter Attachments
Skid Steer Log Splitter
Cone Screw Splitter attachments are available for many different carriers from mini-skid loaders to large excavators. As you would expect, smaller splitter versions are made for smaller carriers while large splitters are mounted to large machines. Which one you choose has more to do with the hydraulic output of your machine than the actual weight of the splitter, but it is a concern.
Cone Screw Wood Splitter
Mini skid steers are the easiest to move around in tight spaces like backyards where a tree service may operate. If you have a reasonable log pile to split, this is a fine choice. They weigh the least and with tracks can move across turf in a straight line without damaging much. Mid size skid steers are one of the most common mounting platforms because so many companies keep one of these skid loaders around. Mini and full size excavators are the better mount, in most cases. It's hard for a skid steer to keep up with an excavator because of the reach and smooth operation it provides. You can boom over more things to split. You can make a large pile of split wood before you have to move anything out of the way. A skid steer is less mobile around split material and doesn't reach out as far as an excavator.
Mini Excavator Cone Screw Splitter
Mini excavators are a fantastic carrier to run a cone screw splitter on. Like the full excavators, mini's are mobile and can boom over logs to split big piles of logs without having to move much material. U.S. Pride makes the HF-400 cone splitter, shown in the image below. It's purpose built to take the stresses that a mini excavator can dish out. They are used by many different types of businesses like tree services, wood processing yards and mulch yards.
Full size excavator cone screw splitters are also available.
